I went to the “A Christmas Story” event hosted by Buckhead Church last weekend. It was featuring Donald Miller who is well-known for his book, Blue Like Jazz. To be honest, I have never read any of his books. But I was blown away by his ability to weave an enthralling narrative while pacing back and forth on the stage. I appreciated his raw approach to telling about his struggles and triumphs, and I was challenged by his life approach. He really made me stop and think about what story my life is telling. I want my story to be about something meaningful. Lasting. Intangible. I want to live beyond the futility of the day to day and to play a role in the bigger story that is worthy of being penned. Thanks to Donald for a great night of laughs and inspiration. I can’t wait to read A Million Miles in a Thousand Years.

What is the attraction that some girls have with these overly corny girly movies?? Well, that’s me. I’ve watched Bride Wars this month an unhealthy amount of times. Here are some of my other shameful favorites: 13 Going on 30, 10 Things I hate about you, How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days, The Nanny Diaries, Romy and Michelle’s High School Reunion, 27 Dresses, and of course, The Notebook.

I mean ,these movies are so utterly cheesy, but so addicting to watch…almost like a comfort; a flannel blanket. Is it the predictable cliches and simple plots that draws us women in? Or is it the unrealistic Matthew McConaughey looking lead guy that we watch for? All I can say is; future husband: get ready for a lifetime of happiness and the occasional girly movie. These movies will probably always be a guilty pleasure for me. :)

I couldn’t agree more. And I”d add P.S. I Love You, Love Actually, He’s Just Not That Into You, and Made of Honor to that list.

I’d have to agree too. Plus, add in The Holiday, 27 Dresses, and Sleepless in Seattle.

Where the Wild Things Are

I went to see WTWTA this past weekend with a friend. It was definitely not what I expected, but I loved it! I thought that it was going to be more geared toward kids, but it turned out to be rather dark. It dealt with strife, love, hate, anger, bitterness, and so much more. It was amazing to see these characters that I loved from my childhood come to life. Carol and KW are my absolute favorites, and the kid who played Max was incredible. If you haven’t seen it, you really should. And for those of us who grew up reading the book, it is everything we imagined as little kids & more.
